Today Sunday 8th September 2019, St. Mary’s Tadley Church, Tadley North, held a service to Commemorate the 79th Anniversary of The Battle of Britain. The Service was conducted by Flt Lt Charles Lewis Chaplain to 2403 (Aldermaston) Squadron and Thames Valley Wing Air Training Corps (ATC) and Revd Gill Sakakini. The Preacher was Revd. (Sqn Ldr) P John Baptiste, RAF HQ Chaplain, Northwood Headquarters.
In attendance was the Hon Hugo Cubitt DL, Deputy Lieutenant of Hampshire and Mrs Cubitt, along with The Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane, Cllr Diane Taylor and The Chairman of Tadley Town, Jo Page.
The ATC Cadets from Aldernmaston, Burghfield and Basinstoke paraded their Standards along with those of the Local RAF Association and The Royal British Legion. The Church was full with the Cadets and their Officers and the congregation of St. Mary’s. All were treated to an inspiring sermon by Revd. (Sqd Ldr) Baptiste, on serving others.
The Service was followed by refreshments in the church hall provided by supporters of the ATC. This has become an annual Service at St. Mary’s who as a Church have provided Chaplains to the Local ATC over many years.
