From Rev’d Gill
Most of us settle into a rhythm every September that’s engrained since school days. The pattern is familiar; stiff new school shoes, too short hair, and the mix of excitement and anxiety of a new year. I learned this week that these two words, anxiety and excitement, come from the same root and, this September we find ourselves holding both in a strange kind of tension. Familiar things that now look different can disorientate and worry us, and yet there can be a frisson of excitement about the potential for something new which we mustn’t ignore.
We can take encouragement from today’s Collect prayer which reminds us that God searches us and knows us – God knows how we feel, each one of us, whatever age, in our anxiety, and we can say – God, ’we can rely on you in strength and rest on you in weakness’ in whatever we face this week. Let’s expect God to speak to us, whether at a ‘burning bush’ or in the everyday aspects of our life, and let’s make the most of exciting opportunities with all God’s courage as we take risks in the kingdom of God. You might send a card or letter, speak words of encouragement to a neighbour, consider joining a small group on Zoom to deepen your relationship with God. (If you are interested in a course please speak to Gill or Steve).
Collect for 06 Sep 2020
Almighty God,
you search us and know us:
may we rely on you in strength
and rest on you in weakness,
now and in all our days;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
