Autumn Audio Retreat with Brian Draper

Brian Draper writes:

Hi there!

I’m delighted to say I’ve finished recording my autumn ‘audio’ retreat, and it’s ready for you to enjoy – just in time for the weekend! I’ve really missed leading my seasonal walks this year, but I’m so pleased to offer this creative alternative.

It’s all quite simple: download the file from my website onto your device, plug in your head-phones, step outside and take a reflective walk into autumn! (And if you can’t get out or walk too far – or if you don’t have a smart-phone or tablet – you can easily listen on your computer and still have an immersive time in your home or garden.)

There’s an intro and seven guided reflections on autumnal themes, plus simple ideas for ‘practice’ woven in. At 75 minutes long, you can listen in one go, or else take it slower, pressing pause between reflections and making a personal ‘event’ of it. You could even walk with friends, listen in parts, and reflect together, if local rules permit.

NB: You’ll need to visit the page – briandraper.org/autumn-audio – using the phone or tablet you want to listen from on your walk, so that you can download the file to that particular device. And don’t forget to charge it up before you head out!

If you enjoy it and would like to make a donation, details are on the link – you can chip in via bank transfer, cheque or paypal. My suggestion is £10, but you’re welcome to pay less, more, or nothing at all, depending on your circumstances.

Apparently we’re set (here in the UK) for a vividly colourful autumn; I do hope my resource will prove to be a soulful companion, whether you’re feeling fruitful and mellow, or stripped back to the branch, or perhaps a bit of both…

With my deepest thanks for your continued support.
Go well!

Brian

Alpha Course

Richard Harlow is running an Alpha course via Zoom for anyone in the Benefice starting on Tuesday 15 September.

Alpha is a chance to ask those questions about Christian faith that we don’t get a chance to ask in services. Each session includes a film covering a topic, such as “How do I pray?” “Why did Jesus die?” “How does God guide us?”, which is followed by an hour of discussion. There are about 12 sessions, but you can leave the course at any time. Each session will run from 7.30pm to 9pm.

If you would like to have a look at the first video, you can view it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBMMD5C0k-s

Let Richard know, if you would like to join in by e-mailing:  Richard73harlow@aol.com

Weekly Notices – 06 Sep 2020

From Rev’d Gill

Most of us settle into a rhythm every September that’s engrained since school days. The pattern is familiar; stiff new school shoes, too short hair, and the mix of excitement and anxiety of a new year. I learned this week that these two words, anxiety and excitement, come from the same root and, this September we find ourselves holding both in a strange kind of tension. Familiar things that now look different can disorientate and worry us, and yet there can be a frisson of excitement about the potential for something new which we mustn’t ignore.

We can take encouragement from today’s Collect prayer which reminds us that God searches us and knows us – God knows how we feel, each one of us, whatever age, in our anxiety, and we can say  –  God, ’we can rely on you in strength and rest on you in weakness’ in whatever we face this week. Let’s expect God to speak to us, whether at a ‘burning bush’ or in the everyday aspects of our life, and let’s make the most of exciting opportunities with all God’s courage as we take risks in the kingdom of God. You might send a card or letter, speak words of encouragement to a neighbour, consider joining a small group on Zoom to deepen your relationship with God. (If you are interested in a course please speak to Gill or Steve).

Collect for 06 Sep 2020
Almighty God,
you search us and know us:
may we rely on you in strength
and rest on you in weakness,
now and in all our days;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
